The Vice-Rector on scientific work is Beshta Oleksandr Stepanovich, engineer-electrician, Doctor of Technical Science, professor.

The chief of the Scientific and Research Department is Deputy Vice-Rector on scientific work Homenko Oleg Eugenovich, mining engineer, Candidate of Technical Science, professor.

The basic purpose of Scientific and Research Department activity is implementing a state policy in the field of science, scientific and technical, innovational activity, and intellectual property in the system of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and other branch ministries.

The primary goals of activity:

1. The organization and conducting of fundamental and applied research aimed at implementing the priority directions of science and engineering, high technologies, education, usage of all opportunities for increasing the significance of scientific activity at the University, as bases for training engineering, scientific and pedagogical staff;
2. Wide participation of scientists in solving social and economic problems on the basis of proposals of national, interregional, branch, interbranch, regional and interuniversity scientific and technical programs;
3. The organization of scientific research in the field of humanitarian, psychological and pedagogical sciences, problems of society and person;
4. A professional training of top skills through postgraduate and doctoral studies;
5. Wide involvement of talented student youth into scientific and technical activity;
6. Creation of necessary conditions which stimulate development of technical and technological innovations, provide reduction of an innovational cycle "science - manufacture" at the increase of competitiveness of products created;
7. Activation of practical feedback of scientific research in view of final requirements of industry and society;
8. Organizational and methodical management of interntional and patent-license activity, protection of results scientific research, registration of inventions and discoveries;
9. Conducting of scientific and technical conferences, seminars, exhibitions, presentations, etc.;
10. Preparation and dissemination of promotional materials on engineering research and development.

In the field of organization, control and account of research and development the Research part provides:

1. Planning and control of accomplishment of thematic plans of research and development on scientific directions of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, other branch ministries, corporations, the factories, establishments, the organizations, etc.;
2. Implementation of system of competitive selection for scientific development, examinations, control and paperwork;
3. Account of expenses on any contractual and budgetary theme according to the authorized accounting;
4. Account of material assets and their target use for accomplishment of scientific research and development;
5. State registration of research and development;
6. Preparation of reports on scientific activity as parts of materials of the report of university;
7. Implementation of practical provisions on creation of favorable conditions for increasing the interest of scientists in escalating volumes of carried out operations in the Research part.

In the field of interrelation of scientific research with educational process the Research part provides:

1. Engagement of students to participate in research and development, which are carried out under economic contracts and means of the state budget;
2. Conducting of annual student science week, student scientific Olympiads, competitions of student exhibitions, etc. at the university;
3. Conducting of scientific and methodical operation on development of intellectual and technical creativity of youth;
4. Direct participation of regular scientific employees in educational process.
