Department of Physical Culture

The head of department is Vilyanskiy Vladimir Nikolaevich — senior lecturer, deserved coach of Ukraine, president of regional Karate Federation.

The Department of Physical Culture was established in 1929.

The department was set up for strengthening health, increasing sports skills, propagation of a healthy way of life among the students and staff of the University.

It offers various kinds of sports for the students to chose so that they may be involved in sport activities according to their inclinations.

Within the department’s staff there are 25 teachers, among which 23 persons are higher teachers, and 10 masters of sport.

The teaching staff of the department is involved into research of the analysis and dynamics of physical development of the students, history of kinds of sports of the university, studies on the specialty (kinds of sports, struggle, aerobics, boxing, eastern fighting arts, etc.).

On the sport basis of the university there work 14 sports sections and 28 health-improving groups, in which about 700 students and employees are involved.

Championships on various kinds of sports are carried out at the National Mining University. Many interesting traditional competitions, for example such as the one in mini-football on prize of the NMU rector, academician Gennadiy Pivnyak, and many others take place annually.
