Department of open cast mining

Head of the department is Gumenik Iljya Lvovich, mining engineer-constructor, Doctor of technical science, professor.

The Department was established in 1956.

At the department the training of specialists on direction “Mining” according to specialties “Deposits mining”, “Open Cast Mining” is carried out.

Levels of training: bachelor, specialist, master.

The educational process is provided by 7 professors and 6 associate professors. Totally at the department there are 35 employees, including scientists and personnel staff.

Regular communication of the department with mining enterprises allows to provide students with places of educational and industrial practice, and to employ graduates.

There are post graduate and doctoral courses functioning according to specialty “Open Cast Mining”.

Main directions of the department’s scientific activity:

• theoretical substantiation and development of progressive methods of open cast mining;
  
• improvement of the techniques of cycle, cycle-flow and flow technology on the careers;
  
• complex elaboration of mineral deposits and forming man-made deposits;
  
• scientific and technological basis of natural resources rational usage and environmental protection at open cast mining;
  
• creating of ecologically pure explosives;
  
• methodology of designing and planning of open cast mining.
