Department of geology and mineral prospecting

Head of the department is Vasiliy Fedorovich Prikhodchenko, mining engineer-geologist, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Professor.

The department was founded in 1914 for training mining engineers-geologists on search and prospecting of raw material deposits.

At present the main direction of the students education at the department is «Geology», specialty «Geology».

The levels of training are bachelor, specialist, and master.

For providing educational process at the department there work 4 Doctors of geological and mineralogical sciences (professors) and 5 Candidates of geological and mineralogical sciences (associate professors). The staff of the Department consists of 16 persons, including the scientists and personnel.

The post-graduate study course functions on the following specialties:

• Geology of metallic and non-metallic deposits;
  
• Geology of solid combustible deposits.
  

The main directions of scientific activity are the following:

• geological structure and conditions of origin of coal formations;
  
• coal-bearing;
  
• geological conditions of metasomatic formations origin in green-stone belts;
  
• geological factors and conditions of garnet deposits formation.
