The Department was established in 1996.

The teaching staff of the Department consists of 3 professors, 7 associate professors, and 5 assistants. The total number of the staff is 23 employees.

The Department’s expert specialists perform practical work in leading Ukrainian and foreign organizations, have their own significant developments in the field of the newest computer technologies.

Other than the general laboratories for undergraduate and postgraduate course work, the Department has two specialised scientific laboratories.

The Department carries out training of engineers in three specialties:

  • “Computer Ecological and Economical Monitoring” (Computer sciences)
  • “Intelligent decision-making systems” (Computer sciences)
  • “Geoinformation Systems and Technologies” (Geodesy, cartography and landuse)

Levels of training: bachelor, engineer, master`s degree.

The post-graduate course is open at the Department, the scientific specialties are the following:

  • 05.13.06 – Information technologies;
  • 04.00.22 – Geophysics.

The current areas of Department research are:

  • integrated analysis of geographical data by means of geoinformation systems;
  • pattern recognition and image processing;
  • processing of remote probing data;
  • computer systems of ecological and economical monitoring;
  • intelligent decision-making systems.

Much attention is paid to the expansion of scientific contacts with higher educational establishments and organizations in Canada, China, Germany, Kazakhstan, Russia, Slovakia, USA, and Uzbekistan.
