Department of general and structural geology

Head of the Department is Homenko Yuriy Tymofiyovych, Candidate of geological science, Professor.

The Department of general and structural geology was founded in 1925.

At present there are the main disciplines taught:

• General geology;
  
• Structural geology, geomapping and remote research methods;
  
• Basis of geology.
  

Students have the recognizing geological practice in Crimea and Dnepropetrovsk region after completing the first year, where they acquire the first customs of field geological work. The geological prospecting practice is carried out after completing the second year at the center of Moscow State University in Crimea.

There are 2 doctors of geological science, professors, 5 candidates of geomineralogical and geological science, assistant professors at the Department. Altogether, at the Department work 14 staff members including scientists and post-graduates.

There is the speleological section, which is headed by the member of the Speleologist Union of Ukraine M. Y. Gorbunov.

There are following directions of the post-graduate study at the Department:

• “General and regional geology”;
  
• “Geology of metallic and nonmetallic minerals”.
  

The main directions of scientific work of the Department are:

• study of electromagnetic fields role in geological processes;
  
• geology of iron and gold deposits;
  
• mining regions ecology.
