Department of Physics

Head of department is Igor Pavlovich Garkusha, Candidate of physical and mathematical Science, Professor.

The history of the Ekaterinoslav Mining School’s Physics Department begins from 1903.

Then it was established as an independent subdivision from the small laboratory at the structure of the electrotechnical department.

Today the department is represented by 2 professors, 8 associate professors, 6 senior teachers, 4 assistants, and 8 educational masters.

The department has 7 studying laboratories, a large lecture room.

Main direction of scientific work of the department was defined at 30-th years of the past century by professor A. Malinovsky. It is the experimental studying of burn processes.

Besides, the following researches are carried out at the department:

• Explosive breakage and loss of strength by blasting and the development of controlling breakage processes;
  
• High gradient magnetic separation;
  
• Statistic thermodynamics;
  
• Quantum field theory at nonzero temperature
  
• The theory of gravitation and general relativity.
